Top lane is not always won by fighting more. The better player chooses when the fight happens.

The first three levels matter

Top is a long lane where early level differences can change a duel. A larger friendly minion wave can contribute damage during a trade.

Do not assume pushing is always correct. Sometimes letting a wave approach your tower creates a safer position, while in other matchups early pressure gives you a useful level lead.

Compare champion levels and minion counts before every early trade.

Attack after a missed ability

Look for the opponent's important damaging or crowd-control ability. A missed spell can open a short window when retaliation is safer.

Tanks, fighters and duelists favour different trade patterns. Identify whether your champion wants short exchanges, extended combat or a quiet farming phase.

Identify one enemy cooldown and deliberately play around it three times.

A freeze is a tool, not the objective

Holding the wave near your tower can force an opponent into a dangerous position to collect minions. An improperly managed freeze, however, may collapse and cost you time.

When preparing to recall or help with an objective, pushing a wave under the enemy turret can reduce the experience you lose while away.

Try this next match

Practise crashing a wave before recalling.

After the first tower

As the game progresses, decide whether to push a side lane or group with your team. Check where opponents are visible and whether you can escape a collapse.

Teleport may let you rejoin a fight, but you still need to plan around objective timers. Pressuring blindly without vision rarely produces reliable advantages.

Try this next match

Locate visible opponents before pushing beyond the next turret.
