Good support play is active decision-making, not simply following another champion.
Pressure starts in lane
Supports influence how safely a bot-lane wave can be contested. Standing close enough to threaten an ability changes what the opponents can do.
Avoid unnecessary damage when your lane partner is farming under pressure. Understand whether your champion wants to engage, poke or protect.
Notice three moments when your presence changes enemy positioning.
Vision needs a purpose
Wards are most valuable where you need information for an upcoming action: a jungle entrance, a river crossing or an objective route.
Deep vision is only safe when teammates can support you. A ward is not worth a death shortly before a major objective.
Before each ward, say what question it should answer.
Roam with your wave
A support roam can help mid lane or the jungler, but leaving a vulnerable ADC alone during a bad wave may create an avoidable loss.
Look for windows after a recall or when your carry can safely collect a wave near turret.
Check bot wave state before leaving the lane.
Know who needs protection
In teamfights, protecting the champion providing the most reliable damage can be more useful than starting a risky fight.
Track dive threats and preserve crowd control or shields for the moments when they matter most.
After a fight, identify which defensive ability changed the outcome.
